A Nightmare On Elm Street 1 was released a quarter century ago and many consider the movie to be the scariest they have ever seen; at least in terms of concept, there is nothing half as bizarre. A villain slopping children in reality and also entering into their nightmare displayed the implausible theme of reality blurring into dreams.
Freddy Krueger kills all the children on Elm Street except Nancy. Nancy gets the better of Freddy by pulling him out of the dream world and taking him into reality. Here Nancy stands equal in footing to Freddy.
